In short order, the pieces are coalescing around a proposed USL Championship team that’d come to Rhode Island in 2023.
Back in February, financing for the Tidewater Landing project in Pawtucket, with its soccer-specific stadium centerpiece, got approved. The venture, as it stands, would cost $284 million and be located along the banks of the Seekonk River.
Then last week, it was announced that former New England Revolution and U.S. men’s national team defender Michael Parkhurst (Cranston, R.I.) has taken a minority ownership stake in the potential club that'd double New England’s second-division presence alongside Hartford Athletic.
