To advance to Saturday afternoon's Class B final, Rivers and Kimball Union Academy sure didn't make it easy on themselves.
The No. 6 Red Wings (12-5-2) required an overtime game-winner from junior striker Aidan Davock, pulling off a 3-2 upset over No. 3 and defending champions Brooks. As for the No. 2 Wildcats (14-2-1), they came from behind to down No. 7 Noble & Greenough, 2-1, benefitting from a red card to Nobles' starting goalkeeper and a game-winner from outside back Jonathan Schafer.
But at this survive-and-advance stage of the season, how a win is earned doesn't matter all that much. All that does is the chance to play another day, and that's exactly what Rivers and Kimball Union have. Come out on top again, and they'll advance to play either No. 1 Middlesex or No. 4 South Kent.
"We weren’t panicked in the second half," KUA coach Michael Doherty said. "You can't be at this time of year."
