Brooke Heinsohn, from an early age, knew she wanted to go to Duke.
The granddaughter of Boston Celtics great Tommy Heinsohn, her father played football for the Blue Devils and her mom also attended the private university in Durham, N.C. But achieving that was an entirely different proposition, Heinsohn said.
"In the environment and town I'm from, not many play (Division 1) college soccer, never mind top-25 college soccer," the Norfolk, Mass., native said.
Flash forward to the second round of the NCAA tournament and the redshirt sophomore has achieved her dream, starting for the storied Atlantic Coast Conference program. The goalkeeper linked up with New England Soccer Journal ahead of her team's game Friday in Washington, D.C., against Lipscomb University. The winner will advance to play Georgetown or Washington State on Sunday.
