The global sport cancellations caused by COVID-19 have reached semi-professional soccer in New England, with the National Premier Soccer League's 2020 summer season cancelled under its current competition structure.
The news arose Thursday via an announcement from NPSL board chairman Kenneth Farrell, with the possibility left open for an abbreviated schedule in mid-to-late summer.
"This action was not taken lightly," Farrell's statement read. "Over the past few weeks, the league has spoken to many of its teams and affiliate organizations. Every situation is different and has its own set of circumstances. The NPSL is balancing the immediate needs of its teams, and ensuring that there is a successful, thriving league for years to come."
