LANCASTER, Mass. – After halftime, the attacks came in waves.
And, when Sunday’s game was over, all the recent near-misses for Worcester Academy had been wiped clean, too, with a 1-0 win over Miss Porter’s in the NEPSAC Class A final.
The symbolic last act was players dousing unsuspecting head coach Jen Marino with a water bucket when it was over.
Sophomore attacking midfielder Lily Bierfeldt set the winning play in motion when she was taken down during a run down the right side with a little over 10 minutes to play. Aide Pokou’s free kick from 30 yards out then found her at the back post, and her contested header produced the game’s only goal.
