University of Vermont senior midfielder Alex Nagy (Bow, N.H.) woke up last Tuesday with no expectations.
The 2021 America East All-Conference First Teamer and United Soccer Coaches All-Northeast First Teamer wasn’t even aware that he was on the eligible player list for that day’s MLS SuperDraft 2022.
"I woke up on draft day not even realizing I was going to be in the draft," said Nagy. "Then, I figured out that I was in it and we ended up watching it (on the computer). I didn’t know what to feel about it, because I hadn’t talked to many people about it, just some of my coaches. But I didn’t really know what was going to happen at all."
What happened was Nagy was selected in the second round of the three-round draft by D.C. United with the 41st overall pick. He was one of six players with New England connections chosen in the draft, and was one of only two players with a New England hometown -- the other being Saint Louis’ forward Simon Becher (Brooklyn, Conn.).
