Despite having arguably the best goalkeeper in the United States, and one of the best in the world, already on their roster, the New England Revolution opted to select a keeper in the first round of Tuesday’s MLS SuperDraft 2022.
The Revs made Loyola Marymount University’s Jacob Jackson their pick at 24th overall in the draft. New England, of course, already has reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Matt Turner, who is only 27 and was named Best Goalkeeper in last year’s Concacaf Gold Cup, while starring for the U.S. Men’s National Team. In the offseason, the Revolution also signed veteran free agent keeper Brad Knighton through the 2022 MLS season. Knighton is in his 15th MLS season, and this will be his 12th with the Revs.
Still, Jackson is excited to be in New England as the Revs officially began preseason training on Wednesday in preparation for next month’s Concacaf Champions League and the start of the 2022 MLS season, which is also in February.
