The first month of the USL Championship season is in the books, and a dozen-plus players with ties to New England find themselves in key roles for their respective teams.
Mostly concentrated in the Eastern Conference, those included are either from New England or went to college or prep school within the region. A couple local players call the Western Conference home, too.
The USL Championship is the second tier of professional soccer in America, and most games are streamed on ESPN+. As budgets grow for Major League Soccer teams, young prospects often earn their first contract in the USL. There are also seasoned pros whose careers are winding down and call the league home.
