With the dissolution of the North American Soccer League, lower-league development opportunities are few and far between for young, aspiring soccer players.
Step in USL League One, the third tier of professional soccer in America, which recently kicked off its 2019 season. Still in its infancy, the league features 10 teams and targets U.S. communities with populations from 150,000 to one million people that otherwise don't have access to a local team.
Those in USL League One are surely hoping to vault up the domestic soccer pyramid – Major League Soccer is first, then the USL Championship is second – in pursuit of a more-lucrative contract or spot on a higher-profile team.
