Khano Smith has been named the first head coach of Rhode Island FC. (Rhode Island FC)
Khano Smith already had deep, strong ties to the New England region.
The former New England Revolution midfielder/forward tallied eight goals and 12 assists in 101 appearances across five seasons (2005-08, 2010) with the Revs.
Smith started his coaching career with the New England Revolution Academy, shortly after retiring as an MLS player. He also worked as an assistant coach with Division 2 Southern New Hampshire University for one season in 2015, and helped the side earn a 19-1-1 record.
So, when he was offered the opportunity to return to New England and lead a new professional franchise into the future, he jumped at the chance.
