While college coaches primarily hit the recruiting trails in search of impactful freshmen, transfers can also be important additions. They come with experience in the college ranks, are accustomed to the demands of a grueling fall season, and largely just need to adjust to a system of play.
Ahead of the 2018 season, New England Soccer Journal has highlighted 10 transfers to local Division 1 programs to keep an eye out for. Given past successes, they should carve out decent roles.
As of late, transfers have positively shaped D1 programs throughout the region. Anthony Viteri, previously of St. John’s, emerged as Boston University’s top attacking player in 2015 and 2016. Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H.), after four years at Northwestern, helped anchor New Hampshire’s back line in 2018 en route to the NCAA Tournament’s third round. And Toby Howell, following two seasons at Marquette, scored five goals for Brown in 2017.
Not all of the below transfers, organized alphabetically, are going to pan out. Still, their progressions are certainly worth tracking.
