The youth soccer landscape is seldom a static one. Leagues expand and contract, players search for opportunities inward and outward, and influential parties come and go.
The latest chapter in all that arrives via South Shore Select, which is set to join the girls’ portion of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy for the 2019-20 season. Based outside of Boston, Mass., the club will operate teams at the U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-19 age groups.
The process began this past November, club owner Liz Lima said, and is about more than the league. South Shore Select will still field teams in the National Premier League, competing locally in the New England Premiership.
