Ahead of the U.S. U-20 women’s national team playing in the La Manga Tournament in Spain, a 20-player roster has been named by head coach Mark Carr.
Only one player, defender Michela Agresti (Swampscott, Mass.), is from New England. Agresti, one of eight call-ups born in 2001, was previously part of the U.S. team that failed to advance from its group stage at the 2018 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.
A longtime FC Stars standout in the Elite Clubs National League, Agresti is also committed to Boston College. Her twin sister, Samantha Agresti (Swampscott, Mass.) is also BC-bound to play for new head coach Jason Lowe. He’s taken over from Alison Foley.
The camp is yet another building block as the U.S. seeks to qualify for the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, an event which does not yet have a host nation. At the 2018 version in France, the U.S. finished third in Group C behind Spain and Japan. It was the first time the U.S. failed to knockout rounds in the tournament’s history
