Isaac Angking grew up a faithful fan of the New England Revolution in the Mount Pleasant section of Providence, R.I.
Angking remained loyal to the team to the extent that, when it came time to sign a professional contract, he refused to entertain possible offers from European clubs and accepted the Revolution’s minimum salary offer this past January.
Angking, 18, capitalized on his first professional appearance to help preserve the Revolution’s 1-0 victory over New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night. Angking’s composure and deft touches were impressive as he matched up with the Cityzen's veteran midfielders and Spain’s legendary striker, David Villa. Angking also nearly scored as he sent a left-foot rebound off the left post after entering as a substitute for Brian Wright, seconds after the former Vermont striker's 71st-minute goal.
