In recent years, the UMass Lowell women’s soccer team has enjoyed great success recruiting internationally.
In fact, last year’s leading scorer, Ioanna Papatheodorou, is from Greece and the 2021 team leader in minutes, defender Dunja Mostarac, is from Serbia.
Seeing as how the program has only been competing in Division 1 since 2013, it’s easy to see why the River Hawks had to get creative in their recruiting tactics and consistently explore overseas recruiting. However, now an established New England D1 program, UMass Lowell is making significant inroads recruiting in its home state.
That sentiment is further evidenced by the fact that the River Hawks have landed commitments from three Class of 2023 standouts from perennial club power FC Stars.
