South Kent held its annual Sportsmen Cardinal Classic tournament last weekend, and the Class B contenders won for the fifth time this decade. Head coach Owen Finberg’s team is looking to capture its first NEPSAC title since 2016, so this could be a good omen of what’s to come.
The tournament included four teams: South Kent, Avon Old Farms, Bridgton Academy and Trinity-Pawling.
The hosts beat both Trinity-Pawling and Avon Old Farms, 3-0, to raise the trophy. The third-place game was won by Trinity-Pawling in a penalty-kick shootout that preceded a 2-2 draw with Bridgton. For the Pride, senior goalkeeper Bailey Monteiro continues to make strides forward and impress.
