A fair number of prep school soccer programs, especially those in Class A and Class B, take preseason trips away from campus. They bring teams together, start laying the foundation for the fall and give coaches a clearer sense of what progress their players have made.
But Northfield Mount Hermon co-head coach Charlie Malcolm isn’t as much a fan of the team camps. He prefers some seclusion, the ability to get away and just focus on their needs.
“I find team prep camps are a little too ramped up for what we need, which is relationship building,” Malcolm said. “We've done it the last seven years. It's been really good, it works for us. We don't get as many scrimmages in, but that's fine.”
