When Ben Pierson began his college recruiting search, he was originally set on playing in the South. The year-round training outdoors, warmer weather and high level of soccer didn’t sound half bad.
But, as fate would have it, the Schenectady, N.Y., native and Oakwood center back is staying local. This past week, Pierson verbally committed to the University of Albany, becoming the seventh player from the Glastonbury, Conn.-based club to commit early to a Division 1 program.
“When I toured Albany it was the first time I’ve ever been there,” Pierson said. “I was really surprised by how nice the campus is, and I knew Coach (Trevor) Gorman some through a friend. Everything their soccer program was about was really attractive to me.”
