For Dexter Southfield's girls varsity soccer squad, it's truly a family affair.
It's not unusual to see siblings suiting up alongside one another on any given prep or high school team. But three different sets of siblings on the same team? It's almost unheard of.
But such is the case for Dexter coach Lauren Jenkins, whose roster features just that. There's junior captain and midfielder Maddy Nylen, sophomore midfielder Libby Nylen and eighth-grade midfielder Izzy Nylen (Scituate, Mass.). Along with the Nylens, the roster boasts junior defender Marissa Kashian and freshman defender Olivia Kashian (Wellesley, Mass.). Rounding out the bunch are sophomore twins in forward Mac and goalkeeper Addy Sutherland (West Roxbury, Mass.).
It's made for a one-of-a-kind dynamic in Jenkins' eyes, which has led to a high level of camaraderie for not only the sisters but the rest of the roster.
"Having the sisters, it's definitely unique," Jenkins said. "I do think that there's definitely like a level of support amongst the kids for each other, not just the siblings on the team for each other."
