WALLINGFORD, Conn. -- After years of knocking at the door, but failing to push it open.
After numerous heartbreaking championship weekend losses.
Finally, the Taft School boys soccer team has won a NEPSAC Class A championship.
The third-seeded Rhinos netted a pair of late-second-half goals to erase a halftime deficit and defeated top-seeded Milton Academy, 2-1, in Sunday’s Class A final at sunny Choate Rosemary Hall.
It was a rematch of last year’s championship game, won by Milton, 2-0. Taft avoided being the Class A runner-up for the third time in four years, and instead hoisted the trophy for the first time in program history. That came after a vibrant celebration on the field after the final whistle that saw Taft fans and students rush onto the field in jubilation.
