BOSTON – It was a duel between two of the best goalies in Massachusetts boys high school soccer, and it did not disappoint.
Behind a stellar performance from junior keeper Matt Droggitis, St. John's Prep cracked senior Jake McConville and BC High in a dramatic 1-0 Catholic Conference victory on Tuesday.
Senior captain Matt Foley scored the game's lone goal, a penalty kick in the 57th minute.
From there, the BC High ratcheted up the pressure, but it was no problem for Droggitis and the SJP defense, locking things down before as the second half wore on. Droggitis came through on several big shots from range as well as some chances in tight, plus a little help from his defenders during some net-front scrambles.
The win extends SJP's season-opening winning streak to six games. Meanwhile, BC High is still searching for its first win, now 0-2-1.
Here are six standouts from the game.
