Last summer, Mayele Malango caught wind of how his USL League Two team, the Boston Bolts, was set to scrimmage the New England Revolution U-23s.
At first, the forward was reluctant to head down to Foxboro, Mass., as he was preparing to enter his junior year at UMass Lowell. But some quick convincing later, Malango made the trip.
“When I went there, I saw all the first-team coaches were watching and realized it was a chance to show as well as I can,” Malango said. “Anything could happen, you never know. That was my shot.”
