The North Atlantic Conference became the sixth Division III conference in New England to cancel or suspend its Fall 2020 season, announcing Monday that games and championships won’t occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 12-member group spans from Presque Isle, Maine and northern Vermont to upstate New York, prompting early talks of splitting into East and West divisions this fall.
But as administrators dug into the challenges at hand, they deemed the season not feasible, a tough decision that Maine Maritime director of athletics Steve Peed discussed at length.
