Through soccer, life, or happenstance, Greg Conrad and Luke Finkelstein’s journeys have seldom had more than one degree of separation.
The starting point, though, is in Peabody, Mass., where they grew up mere miles apart and eventually found their way onto the same Aztec team, a youth club on Boston’s north shore.
And it’s that very Aztec squad which inspires some nostalgic stories, mainly around Conrad, now a 6-foot-5 striker, and Finkelstein, now a 5-foot-7 midfielder.
“When Luke was younger, he was always the smallest kid on the field, and it could get pretty funny,” Conrad, 23, said. “He’d show up and be a peanut out there … so I just think about him running the middle with a jersey that’s way too big on him.”
