Over the years, Michael and Linda Shaffelburg have seen their youngest son, Jacob, reach higher and higher heights in soccer.
There were provincial teams in their native Nova Scotia, prep school championships at Berkshire, USL League Two goals for Black Rock FC and signing with Toronto FC II this past winter.
But Wednesday evening might top the list.
“Several times along the way, we have been overwhelmed by the success of his teams and the personal growth we saw in him,” Jacob’s father said via text message. “We have thought, on more than one occasion, if it can get any better. And then last night happened.”
