WORCESTER, Mass. – He didn’t have to go back. After all, it’s not everyday that professional teams come calling. Certainly not when you’re still in prep school.
That storyline, that pathway is typically reserved for kids in the Development Academy or on youth national teams. Jacob Shaffelburg, despite all his reputation and accolades, didn’t fall into either of those categories.
But the Port Williams, Nova Scotia native wanted to return to Berkshire. Perhaps it was unfinished business, perhaps it was a magnetic draw. Shaffelburg, with plenty of higher-profile options overseas and in Major League Soccer, wanted one last go at a NEPSAC title.
