When Aidan Reilly made his professional debut for the Revolution II on May 24, the club reached a significant milestone that displayed the academy system's recent upward trajectory.
Reilly, an 18-year-old defender from Pembroke, Mass., became the 50th Revolution Academy product to play with the Revolution II since the team's inaugural 2020 season.
It’s an accomplishment that Sporting Director Curt Onalfo envisioned when he took over as technical director in 2019, intending to improve the club's professional pathway.
Before Onalfo’s arrival, the Revolution didn’t offer a second team, which stunted development under the first team. But in 2020, Revolution II was formed, giving the club full pathway status and an opportunity to push players from the Academy to the second team, and hopefully to the first team. Shortly after Onalfo was hired, he brought in Rob Becerra as the club’s Director of Youth Development. The pair, who worked together with the LA Galaxy, immediately went to work.
