Three clubs from the region – NEFC, Oakwood SC and Seacoast United – recently returned from the girls Development Academy Spring Showcase in Commerce City, Colo.
The annual event brought together U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-17 teams from across the country for what amounted to over 300 games from April 26-30. Local players are used to competing in the Northeast Division of the East Conference, though this event offered competition against those the Central and West conferences.
Aside from college recruiting exposure, the Spring Showcase was a prime chance to get viewed by those from U.S. Soccer, with 24 scouts, three regional talent ID managers and director of talent ID Mirelle van Rijbroek all present. For all the tensions and viewpoints on various youth girls leagues, the professionalism and organization of these events are top class.
