Aside from the six national championships won by its skiing program, no team from the University of Vermont had ever won a national championship, or even played for a national championship.
Heck, no team from the America East Conference, in any sport, had ever won a national championship.
But that’s no longer the case. History has been made and that elusive trophy has found a home in Burlington, Vt.
The Vermont men’s soccer team captured a historic national title on Monday night, defeating 13th-seeded Marshall, 2-1 in overtime, in the College Cup final at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
