The Franklin Pierce women’s soccer team spent the last few weeks enjoying a frenzied run to the NCAA Division 2 Final Four.
But FPU’s quest for a sixth national championship fell short on Friday night when the Ravens were shut out, 4-0, by Cal Poly Pomona in a national semifinal in Matthews, N.C.
FPU’s run started with a 1-0 win over Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, giving the Ravens an automatic NCAA Tournament bid. FPU then knocked off Wilmington and Southern New Hampshire in the first two rounds, outlasted Jefferson in penalty kicks, and beat top-seeded Shepherd, 2-1, in the quarterfinals.
This was Franklin Pierce’s first Final Four appearance since 2007.
