The 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference season isn’t cancelled, but a full slate certainly won’t occur with seven of 13 schools already cancelling fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The GNAC is one of two Division III conferences in New England that spans all six states (the Little East Conference is the other) so it faces serious challenges from a travel perspective.
That hurdle, plus others, has caused Anna Maria Dean, Emmanuel, Lasell, Norwich, Regis and Simmons to cancel their seasons in recent days. After seeing the NESCAC, NECC and MASCAC – all local D-III conferences – suspend or cancel fall sports, the decision hardly was surprising.
