Six players throughout New England were named Gatorade Players of the Year for their respective states this week, while one took home repeat honors.
The back-to-back winner was Olivia Freitas (Rehoboth, Mass.) out of Rhode Island, a forward who will play this coming fall at the College of Charleston. A Bayside FC player, she had 69 goals and 36 assists throughout her career at Division 1 power La Salle Academy. Freitas was a two-time All-American, too.
The highest-profile winner was Tabor Academy forward Cat Barry (Hingham, Mass.) out of Massachusetts, who's verbally committed to South Carolina and plays for NEFC in the Development Academy. Only a junior, she already has 61 goals and 32 assists during her NEPSAC career, including several en route to the Seawolves' Class A championship win over Thayer Academy this past fall.
