Touching base shortly after landing from ECNL National Playoffs, a week in Del Mar, Calif., in the books, FC Stars director of coaching Jason Dewhurst is noticeably caught between two emotions.
On one hand, he’s proud of his club and all they accomplished in 2018-19. Four of five possible East teams, with the U-16s the sole exception, made the ECNL Champions League, the highest division possible at playoffs. The club’s U18/U19 East Composite team fell in the national final, while the same goes for their U-16 East and U-15 West teams in the North American Cup, the second-highest playoffs division.
On the other hand, Dewhurst is noticeably disappointed. Their East U-17 team made the Champions League quarterfinals; otherwise it was a group-stage exit for their U-14s, U-15s and U-19s. No FC Stars teams, for the first time in half a decade or so, will be at ECNL National Finals, with this year’s version held July 12-13 in Richmond, Va.
