When the dust settled on seven nonstop days of action at the ECNL Girls National Playoffs, two New England teams were still left standing.
The FC Stars Blue 2010 and 2011 squads advanced from their Champions Cup groups and then emerged victorious in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, securing tickets to the National Finals later this month in Richmond, Va.
With two teams headed to Richmond and another (U-19) reaching the national semifinals, FC Stars Blue was one of four clubs nationwide to have three teams reach the Elite Eight.
In total, New England had 10 teams from four different clubs participate in the Champions Cup, held in San Diego, Calif., at the Surf Sports Park. FC Stars Blue led the way with five teams (U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17, U-19), Scorpions SC (U-15, U-17) and South Shore Select (U-13, U-14) each had two, and Connecticut FC (U-16) also had a representative.
While FC Stars Blue was the only club with teams advancing, several others had spirited runs in California and knocked on the door of a berth to Richmond.
Here’s a recap of how all the local Champions Cup teams performed at the ECNL National Playoffs from the U-13 to U-19 age groups.
