FOXBORO, Mass. – Adverse temperatures, artificial turf and a tradition for slow starts. Several factors are working against the New England Revolution’s attempts to begin their 25th MLS season on the right foot.
But Bruce Arena is not buying any of it as he begins his first full campaign as the Revolution’s sporting director/head coach.
“Weather’s not an excuse,” Arena said after the club’s opening preseason training session this week. “We’ll be in California and Portland. Weather’s not an issue. It’s whether we can build a good team for the opening game on Feb. 29 [at the Montreal Impact].”
