Worcester Polytechnic Institute coach Brian Kelley said his team is “honored and humbled” to have a chance to defend the title it won in the NEWMAC last year.
When Ryan Stokes buried his game-winning penalty kick into the low left corner of the net in last year’s final against Springfield, he ensured that the Engineers would begin the 2018 season as NEWMAC defending champions for the first time ever.
Early indications are that this team might be good enough to do it again.
Coaches around the league think so. WPI was picked to finish first in the preseason poll, collecting four of the eight first-place votes. And its body of work out of the gate has it living up to those predictions.
