Non-conference play continued last week in Division 1 men’s soccer, with several local teams continuing their hot starts to the 2018 season.
The University of Rhode Island has proven to be a top team in the region, cruising to a 5-0 start by not allowing a goal. Boston College also remained unbeaten with a late, 3-2 win over Clemson at home on Friday. Meanwhile, UMass Lowell is 5-0-1 and crawling up the national polls.
The biggest win of the week came from Fairfield, knocking off top-10 team UNC Wilmington on the road, 2-1. A late penalty kick by Diego Casielles put the Stags in front for good.
Winless Bryant came close to pulling off an upset, but settled for a 1-1 draw at home against Fordham, an NCAA tournament team in 2017. Freshman Ben Williams scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs, then a late equalizer by Fordham forced overtime.
Here’s how New England's top teams shaped up this week, with some movement toward the middle and a new team sliding into the fold.
