The New England Revolution indicated they would be increasing investments in players when they gave English center back Michael Mancienne the highest salary for a defender in MLS during the 2018 season.
Now, the Revs have upped the ante by making Spanish midfielder Carles Gil the most expensive player in their 24-year history.
Gil was acquired on a $2 million transfer from La Liga 2 side Deportivo La Coruña this week, set to receive an annual pay of $2 million on a multi-year contract. Previously, the Revolution’s most expensive player was Jermaine Jones, who took in $3.05 million in salary in 2015, the U.S. international midfielder arriving on a free transfer.
