FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – At 67, Bruce Arena was not ready to walk away from the challenge that has defined his professional life, which is building soccer in the United States. Arena did it at the college level at Virginia, in both the nascent days and more recent times in Major League Soccer and with two different eras of the United States men's national team.
As newly-appointed sporting director and head coach of the New England Revolution, Arena returns to MLS with a giant task and mandate to create a consistent, winning culture.
“I love the challenge and building the game in this country,” Arena said. “It's something I've done for 40 years and it's not easy to walk away from. It's something that's very important to me, so that's why I'm here today.”
