Getting to this point was no easy feat for Matthew Goncalves (Everett, Mass.), a forward at Belmont Hill and for the Boston Bolts' U-19 Development Academy team.
Even with school, prior to getting his driver’s license, it required quite the commute. He’d get up at 5:30 a.m., and start a journey the include two bus rides, a train ride and then walking to campus in Belmont, Mass. His parents, immigrants from Brazil, went to work early and there simply wasn’t another way.
“I’m so, so happy to not get up at 5:30 in the morning to go to school,” Goncalves said. “That definitely built some character."
