When the spring Development Academy season rolls around, teams tend to add a player or two. Typically, they've either previously received waivers to play high school soccer or come on late.
Either way, it's all in pursuit of climbing up the standings and improving the team's collective ceiling.
Look no further than Beachside's U-19 team, which is set to add a trio from South Kent, the NEPSAC Class B powerhouse program in southern Connecticut. Academy director Paul Melitsanopoulos has a longstanding relationship with Cardinals' head coach Owen Finberg, so this development is not out of the ordinary.
