After being caught in a no-man’s land of sorts, Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) will remain in USL League One during the 2021 season.
Aviza, 23, has signed with the Richmond Kickers after spending 2020 with Orlando City B, playing in 11 games for the reserve side upon being selected in the second round (44th overall) of last year’s MLS SuperDraft.
But OCB withdrew from USL League One ahead of 2021 and Aviza was one of 12 players who got released in late-October, leaving him in a bind. Step in Richmond, with head coach Darren Sawatzky, a New England Revolution original, reaching out to sign the former Revolution Academy standout.
