The number that jumps off the page for the University of Massachusetts women this fall is 22, as in the number of players on their 30-player roster who are freshmen and sophomores.
The good news? Several of those players got important minutes a year ago, including in the Atlantic 10 postseason when the Minutewomen reached the semifinals for the second year in a row.
“Young group, that’s for sure,” noted coach Jason Dowiak.
