Before the new year, there were serious doubts about a robust 2020-21 Division I women’s soccer season actually unfolding. Like with most areas of life, the COVID-19 pandemic created palpable uncertainty.
But starting with a mid-February game between Sacred Heart and Fordham, teams around New England joined Boston College after the ACC program competed last fall. Considering nearly everyone spent the fall season sidelined, the collective return (even with stops and starts) was encouraging.
The end product is Central Connecticut State (Northeast Conference three-peat) gearing up for an NCAA tournament run, while other locals carry title-chasing aspirations as well. It’s cliché to say, but the spring has flown by.
