Early into the 2019 preseason, Fairfield head coach David Barrett (Hadley, Mass.) has liked what he’s seen so far.
The Stags have already played two exhibition games, falling 1-0 at Fordham and settling for a draw versus Central Connecticut, last year’s Northeast Conference champions. With 13 freshmen and 15 newcomers in total to this year’s team, those scrimmages have been crucial in figuring out the minutiae.
“We’ve had some different oppositions to challenge us and give us an opportunity as coaches to learn about the players and so forth, and the players to learn about themselves,” Barrett said. “These have been really good opportunities for us to just assess our personnel, for them to get experience playing against other college teams.”
