As the second year of Brad Friedel's tenure as New England Revolution head coach nears, much eagerness surrounds veteran additions – and understandably so.
For the March 2 opener at FC Dallas, Designated Player Carles Gil, former U.S. international Edgar Castillo and Independiente Medellín loanee Juan Fernando Caicedo all figure to be important pieces. This club hasn't made the MLS playoffs in three years, and that trio should offer some solutions at attacking midfield, left back and striker, respectively.
But as the 2019 roster takes shape, young prospects will also likely encounter key roles, whether they're products of the SuperDraft or signed as a Homegrown Player. It's the latter that might gain extra attention, too, given the success of Academy products Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) and Scott Caldwell (Braintree, Mass.) – plus the growing market for MLS talents on the global market.
