You might pass over Emma Zaccagnini (Watertown, Conn.) when you first spot her on the pitch.
At just 5-foot-3, she’s an undersized, mild-mannered midfielder who doesn’t jump off the page physically. But don’t let her fool you.
“The hesitation is you look at her and see this little girl,” Matt Cameron, Zaccagnini’s former coach at Oakwood SC, said. “And when it comes to passing the eye test, she could get looked over. But she reads the game, she intercepts passes and she’s such a calming influence on everyone around her. Her understanding of the game is through the roof.”
