Professional soccer in Rhode Island is one step closer to reality.
On Friday, the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation Board of Directors approved a financing plan for the Pawtucket Tidewater Landing development project, which involves a privately-financed soccer-specific stadium that’ll house a future USL Championship (second tier) team.
The $284 million project is being developed by Fortuitous Partners and will be the largest economic development project in Pawtucket’s history. The project will occupy 25 acres on six parcels on both sides of the Seekonk River, highlighted by the 7,500-capacity venue that could accommodate up to 11,000 fans via expansion.
