Every team loses key contributors after each season, but the departure of Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) to graduation stings UMass Lowell extra hard.
The transfer from Providence College finished her River Hawks’ career as the program leader in goals (27) and points (63), earning America East Midfielder of the Year in 2018. With Morrier now gone, first-year head coach Mira Novak needs to find a way to replace that production.
Enter sophomore Emily Nelson (Peabody, Mass.), a 5-foot-3 midfielder who learned a lot playing alongside Morrier last season. She started 20 games in 2018, totaling seven goals and a pair of assists to make the America East All-Rookie Team. Her 16 points were second-most on the team and trailed only Morrier, with fellow sophomore Lily Fabian (Monson, Mass.) closely in third.
