Sophia Struckman grew up being inspired by her older sister, Olivia.
The standout senior midfielder at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology cherished the time they spent as teammates at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., where a dynamic formed: Sophia would make the passes and big sister would score the goals.
“We were never rivals,” Sophia said. “I was always inspired by everything she achieved. I always felt that when she did well in soccer, it motivated me to do even better.”
When Olivia was accepted at MIT, joining a strong Division 3 soccer program, Sophia began thinking about how much she wanted to follow that route.
